ONEMANA SURF LIFESAVING CLUB

Building Project

We are almost finished with the Surf Club upgrade, there is just a concrete pad and stormwater drainage to be completed. This has taken a while to sort because it has needed a variation to our original consent but it has finally been granted and this work will get underway soon. The opening took place at Easter after a successful 2020/2021 summer season with our Lifeguards and members enjoying the new club.

We want to thank everyone for their ongoing support and are looking forward to seeing everyone at the Clubhouse this season.

About the building project

Design and building consent process

Our designer Jenny Walter has been holidaying in Onemana for over 20 years and her involvement with the project began in 2015 when she offered to draw a concept plan for the clubhouse upgrade.  Jenny has worked with all stakeholders to come up with a design that enhances our beachscape but is also functional and suits the needs of our growing surf club community. Jenny has been actively involved in every step of the process assisting with building consents, including finalising designs and fit-outs, liaising with Council, and our building contractors.

Resource consent and compliance process

Simon Karl from 4Sight Consulting has been holidaying in Onemana for many years and offered his assistance back in 2015 with obtaining resource consent. That milestone was achieved in 2018 and more recently he has been involved in guiding us through the compliance process. His engagement with local stakeholders including residents, Iwi, archaeologists and Council has been invaluable. To view more on the 4Sight Consulting's involvement with our Club upgrade click here.

Building upgrade

Our building contractor is Leisurecom Homes based in Cambridge. Their team comprises of lifeguards who are helping to build and upgrade our clubhouse. Robb Marston and his team are keeping us updated at every stage of the build with regular photographs of the offsite build progress. It is awesome to see the progress already made!

Legal Assistance

During the building process, we have been generously supported by Hart & Lowe Barristers and Solicitors from Whangamata. They are a boutique general practice law firm who have provided us a first class legal service.
